Some paintings ask to be looked at. This one asks to be searched.
Where the Butterflies Go is painted from the perspective of a child lying perfectly still in long grass, waiting for the meadow to reveal itself. And reveal itself it does — gradually, generously, to those patient enough to look. A monarch butterfly drifts above the wildflowers. A dragonfly hovers in the warm air. Ladybirds move quietly through the stems. Smaller butterflies dissolve into the luminous distance between the trees. Every visit to this painting finds something new.
This work was painted from childhood memories of running through meadows in search of insects — the particular joy of a child who has learned that the most extraordinary things are hidden in the most ordinary places. Before listing it, I showed it to my own children and asked them to find everything inside it. They didn’t want to stop looking.
This painting would be especially beautiful in any space where children spend time — a family home, a boutique hotel, a clinic, or an educational setting. Commission enquiries are warmly welcomed.
